My mornings have begun to change, like I said they would; instead of a plastic hairbrush I use a comb that has been carved out of cow horn, after it has been steamed and stretched. The end result is neat, hand-made, sustainable, natural, and better for my hair. Nobody notices the difference, as far as I can tell. And it feels better on my head--less tugging.
The comb was a Christmas gift to me from my parents, and it is double whammy of a gift because they ordered it from this scary site. (No, I don’t endorse everything I find on these sites; I just look for specifics on specific products.)
